Made to order

Made to Order. Made Properly.

Most of what we make at Out There Equipped is built only after you place your order.

That is a deliberate choice.

We do not hold piles of pre-made leather goods waiting on a shelf. Each item is made one at a time, by hand, in our workshop. It takes longer, but the result is better.

Made to order allows us to focus on fit, finish, and longevity rather than speed.

What “made to order” means here

Made to order is not just a longer dispatch time. It defines how your item is built.

Your product is:

  • Cut from full-grain leather specifically for your order
  • Dyed, finished, and conditioned by hand
  • Saddle stitched for strength and repairability
  • Built for the exact product and specification you’ve chosen

Nothing is rushed. Nothing is pulled from a generic batch.

The process

Every made-to-order item follows the same methodical build process:

  1. Order placed
Your item enters the build queue. No stock is waiting.
  2. Material selection
Leather is chosen for grain quality, strength, and suitability.
  3. Cutting and forming
Components are cut and prepared by hand for the correct fit.
  4. Stitching and assembly
Saddle stitched and assembled with care and consistency.
  5. Finishing and protection
Edges finished, leather conditioned, and weather-proofed.
  6. Final inspection
Fit, finish, and function checked before dispatch.

This approach takes time, but it ensures the end product performs as it should.

Build times

Made-to-order items typically take 3-5 working days to complete.

That time is spent making your product properly, not waiting around. If an item is listed as made to order, it’s because the materials and process deserve that attention.

Why we do it this way

Batch production is faster. It is also where corners get cut.

Making items to order keeps quality consistent, reduces waste, and ensures every product leaving the workshop meets the same standard. It also means we can stand behind what we make and repair or refresh items years down the line.

What you get in return

  • A product that ages well and develops character
  • Fewer failures over time
  • Something designed to last. Even with a brutal of life out there, restored... not replaced

Made to order is not about exclusivity or marketing language. It’s about building things that last.

If you value how something is made as much as how it looks or feels, you’re in the right place.
